Welcome to Nicholas' Page My Story

Hi! My name is Nicholas Barley and I am so glad you came to my site. My full name is Nicholas Jerome Barley and I was born on December 23, 1996. I started having problems when my motor skills were slower than others. When I was only 12 months old, My Mommy took me to the Pediatrician who referred us for developmental evaluations on my speech, etc. We went to Duke and I was evaluated and I was diagnosed with Developmental Delays. We went to a Hearing specialist to check my hearing. What a terrible day, They had to put me to sleep and my hearing is okay. I started walking at 15 months old. I also started Early Intervention. The motto is "Babies Can't Wait" and then when I turned 3 I was accepted into a Special Education Pre-K class where I would get Speech, Occupational, and Physical Therapy.
My Mommy would take me to school and then she would return at the end of the school day to pick me up. While I was in Pre-K, My brother Matthew was also in K-4 at another school. I really enjoyed my teacher and the year went fairly well.
The following year I went into another teachers class and I honestly don't think she liked me, because she was always trying to tell my Mommy what kind of shoes to put on me, I don't think that she liked tying my shoes when they were untied, and I certainly could not tie my shoes, she also complained about when I had a runny nose, and how she had to stop and wipe my nose, etc. Then my Mommy's Dad passed away and she had to go to the funeral and I stayed with my Mama and Papa who loved me and my brother very much. The teacher made a mistake of telling her what she needed to do, or things that she already knew. So when my Mommy came home, she decided that she would pull me out of school and not send me back. The teacher decided to call after I had discussed the situation with the principal and why she couldn't send him back because it was too stressful on her. That she would send me back the next school year and that I would have the same teacher that I had before. I was turning 5 that year in December so I was able to go back to the Pre-K class.
My last year in Pre-K went real well. When I started I was only saying a few words, but I was beginning to say more, When I am upset, I cry out "I want Daddy" and I could say, bu for bus, mama, daddy, papa, no, nigh nigh for night night and bye. In the year 2002 I began Kindergarten still in a self-contained classroom at another school. I have really adapted well at this school except for some spitting and hitting, that they are working on. I am also going to the pool every Tuesday for an hour and learning basics about water. We have a Habitat at our school and it is our class's responsiblity to feed the animals in the Habitat. I am in school all day and I go to a year round school and I will be attending Intercession in a few short weeks.`I get Speech and Occupational Therapy still, and they decided last year that I did not need Physical Therapy anymore.
Some of my favorite TV shows are: Bob the Builder, Blues Clues, and shows on Nickelodeon (Sometimes I am called this) and I like Cops, I Know that I should not watch it but I love to see Police Officers and Firemen. I also watch alot of Preaching on TV, I am being raised in a Word of Faith household and I attend church twice a week, and I also get excited when I see my Pastor on TV. I keep my bible right there with me when I am watching preaching. I like to say UM HM all the time. I can also say Peez for police and Ba for Bob. We really don't know what my diagnosis is except for Speech Delays and Developmental Delays. My Mommy is a Stay at Home Mom since my Daddy is self employed with a cleaning business.Look for another update at Christmas time, and I will let you know how I am doing. Have a great Thanksgiving and don't eat too much turkey. Look at some links to other websites that happen to be my favorites. Other Places to go:
